When the news hit early Monday morning that former Trump campaign manager Paul Manafort and Watch FriendsManafort associate Robert Gates had been indicted in connection with Robert Mueller's Russia investigation, we all knew it was a matter of time before the POTUS himself responded via Twitter.

And he didn't disappoint, relying on a solid, "I'm rubber and you're glue" defense that referenced his nemesis, Hillary Clinton.

It's not known if Trump's deeply stoic response was also in reference to the other big announcement in the Russia investigation on Monday: that George Papadopoulos, who served Trump's campaign in its early stages as a foreign policy advisor, pleaded guilty to lying to the FBI.

Papadopoulos reportedly tried to set up a meeting between Trump and Russian leaders in early 2016.

This all seems to be kind of a big deal.

Trump's "rubber/glue" defense thus far seems to hold little legal weight but it keeps up his pattern of deflection.

Whether or not these charges managed to bounce off of Trump and stick to Clinton, though, remains to be seen.
